On the season finale of Heroes…Sylar sets out his master plan. Nathan and Peter try to stop him. HRG is apprehended while Claire goes to back up Nathan. Meanwhile, Ando and Hiro try to take down Building 26. Well, the season finale was upon us last night. I, like many of you, had a sort of reserved anticipation for the event. Our latest season of Heroes was a choppy one with glimmers of hope. We didn’t know where it was taking us, but for the most part, we were enjoying the ride. For me, that enjoyment pretty much ended last night.

Where to begin? After all the ups and downs of this season I kept holding on to the idea that things would get better. For every episode that I didn’t care for there were a few pieces that really kept me interested. Hell, I gave out a lot of solid “B” grades this season, even though they weren’t really moving the story along.

Sylar wants to replace the President. He needs to get close enough to touch him so that he can take his DNA to shape shift into him. Who better to use than Nathan Petrelli? He sets up this meeting with the President, but the Petrelli family is already in motion to stop him. I am so bored with this. Sylar is so powerful, yet the same people have stopped him on like three different occasions. All I wanted was a small five minute fight and they just couldn’t deliver. On top of that, when Peter and Nathan go to confront Sylar, a really badass scene is set up where they enter the room and Sylar is standing there with lighting coming out of his hands. I was thinking this was going to be the fight. Well it was, sort of. They enter and then the damn door closes and all we saw were some flashes. Oh, we heard the whole thing and it sounded epic, but they sold us out.

When we last saw Ando and Hiro they were about to enter Building 26 and tear things up. Unfortunately, Hiro tried to stop time and it caused him to double over in pain with a headache and to bleed from the nose. They still manage to get in, and they also cook up some ironic revenge for all of the agents. Hiro frees Mohinder, (who I think has been captured by agents like two or three times), and he tells Hiro that he should not stop time any more. This was a fun part of the show. I really like these two as characters. I get a little irritated with them fighting all of the time, but they do a lot of good. Hiro and Ando do some damage and we see, yet again, why Hiro is a true hero.

I did enjoy parts of this episode, like I have with others in the past. Sylar does some cool power stuff and has a few funny lines. There is a part where he is telling Claire that he is going to murder all of her loved ones. He talks about her dad and mom but when he gets to her brother he pauses and says “What’s your brothers’ name again? Larry?”(It is Lyle) It was funny because it’s this serious threat and he can’t remember all the peoples’ names he is threatening. He even remembers Mr. Muggles, Claire’s dog, but not the brother.

As a fan I feel let down by this volume. But, hasn’t that been the case with the whole season? We have some great story, great actors, and even great vision, but the writers just cant seem to make up there mind on where they want to go. The characters are fleshed well out and I think that they are all well received. I am not going to be drastic and say that I will never watch the show again, but I need something more from the show. Actually, I want what I feel is baked into the title. I want superheroes who don’t just use there powers to get around or open doors. I want them to fight the good fight with their abilities. I don’t know, maybe that’s just too much to ask for. The preview for Volume 5 looks interesting. They just can’t seem to get rid of Ali Later can they?

Fanboyz Grade: D
