Robert Rodriguez Re-Booting Predator; Plans to Film Sin City 2 and The Jetsons!

Now this is some cool news to report on. Director Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) is partnering with 20th Century Fox to re-boot the Predator franchise. According to IESB Rodriguez is in Texas at Troublemaker Studios where a gathering of politicians are in attendance to sign a reform of the Texas Film Incentive Program. While they may not sound all that interesting, what Rodriguez told the press afterwards is very exciting. The director stated,  “I’m going to be able to shoot my upcoming Machete here, a sci-fi action film called Nervewrackers, a re-boot of the Predator series called Predators, and a couple of smaller movies called Sin City 2 and The Jetsons.” This statement has me asking several more questions. We just reported that Sin City 2 in currently in limbo and this is the first I have heard Rodriguez speak about The Jetsons.

So what does all this mean? It appears that Rodriguez has confirmed he will make Machete, a sci-fi flick called Nervewrackers, the Predator re-boot, Sin City 2, and The Jetsons!? This is way too much for one person to take on so this statement could use some clarity.  I am very interested in seeing how all this plays out and if this is just a statement of hyperbole. This will definitely get the fanboys all riled up – and with good reason because these are all really big, exciting movies.

Rodriguez plans to make his Predator re-boot all his own. He will be directing and producing the film; and plans on making the movie based on his own original concept.

What do you think about all of this? Is Rodriguez just trying to hype himself or is this actually grounded in reality? I have my doubts, but from a fanboys perspective, this is some of the best news to come along in a while. Leave your thoughts below.

A new Predator movie, eh? Being a die-hard Predator nut since age 11, I'd be interested to see how he handles this one. My only reservation would be that, while most of Rodriguez's movies feature some great action sequences, they're mostly done with a "wink." Not that a Predator movie needs to be "all business," but he might alienate some long-time fans if they get the feeling that he's lampooning the Predator franchise in any way.

I do know this: It's gonna be gory as hell! :-)
