David Slade Set to Direct third Twilight Film

The news surrounding who will direct the Twilight franchise is changing week to week. In the last few months there have been numerous names dropped into the hat of possible contenders. From Drew Barrymore (Yes, that Drew Barrymore) to Spanish director Jaun Antonio Bayone have all been mentioned. Actually, Bayone was supposedly confirmed as director last month, but today that news proves to be incorrect. Taking over the franchise for the third film titled Eclipse will be 30 Days of Night direct David Slade. Summit Entertainment replaced Catherine Hardwicke, the director of the first Twilight, with Chris Weitz, and in the same fashion have opted to have Slade take over for round three.

I don’t really understand why Summit is changing directors for each film. Granted, the first film was terrible, so maybe new direction is the way to go, but why not give Chris Weitz a chance to helm the third film as well? The second movie in the Twilight Saga, titled New Moon will arrive in theaters this November, and Eclipse will be realeased in July of 2010. So for you Twilight fans, the wait is not very long.
