News on Ghostbusters 3

I am excited to say that there is some light being shed on the Ghostbusters III front. According to sources at Entertainment Weekly Harold Ramis has confirmed some news on the projects future. A script is in the works, as reported earlier, and it looks like we will be seeing familiar faces.

Apparently original cast members, including Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and even Bill Murray will be returning.  “Everybody said they’d do it,” says Ramis “They’ll be looking at younger actors [for the lead roles], I’m sure. But we’ll be in it as mentors or advisers”.  That being said Ramis also had this to add “We’ll see, everyone’s gonna have to love the [Ghostbusters III] script to move it forward.” I know I’m not alone in saying this but the idea of a third installment is just great.

It looks like it will be some time before we will see it get some momentum though. Gene Stupinksy and Lee Eisenberg, the exec-producers of The Office, are busy juggling the screen play and their duties for the show. “They work full-time on The Office, the script process is slow,” says Ramis. “Even if there was a great script by the end of the summer, it would be a year before [we could go into production]. It’s a big movie. Lots of prep.” I am happy as long as it’s moving forward. There was talk a while back about the Ghostbusters going to hell and Ramis had this to say.  As for the plot, it won’t have anything to do with the “Ghostbusters Go to Hell” premise that Aykroyd had cooked up in the ’90s. (At the time, he and Ramis were thinking of casting Chris Farley, Chris Rock, and Ben Stiller.) “As soon as Danny said it, I thought that was really funny. But now there’s a new concept,” Ramis says. “And it’s interesting, beyond the kind of mythology of it, there’s a personal story that’s pretty grounded.” Sounds like some positive stuff. We will see where it goes from here.

Hopefully they can start production by the end of the year and get this thing going.
