This week on Heroes… Claire delves deeper into her role as protector of supers. Nathan goes to Parkman’s aid while Danko tries to escalate matters. Ando and Hiro go to save Matt Parkman, but come to find out he is not who he seems to be. And finally Sylar meets his father.
Hello again Heroes fans! I give yet another A this week. Claire’s story was given an interesting turn last week when Doyle, the Puppet Man, comes to her for help. Sent by Rebel, Doyle has seemingly turned his life around and only wants to get back to something resembling a normal life. Claire refuses and sends him on his way. This was an interesting plot twist for Claire. She has shown us that she desperately wants to be a hero, and part of being a hero means doing what’s right even when that means saving an enemy. It was a good idea. She lets Doyle go only to rescue him from agents later. When she finally decides to help him she asks if he meant what he said about changing, he just looks back at her and gives her a devilish grin.
Nathan and Danko’s relationship comes to a head when Danko tries to use Parkman as an example of super terrorism. Drugged, and strapped with a bomb outside the White House, Parkman is aided only by his current enemy Nathan. Danko wants to show the world how dangerous these people can be. It was kind of a stupid plan. I think that a man with the ability to read and control minds would do something more dangerous that blow himself, and other up. Well, needless to say, Nathan shows up to help and saves the day. Danko planned on making him a martyr by blowing up Parkman and Nathan, but thanks to our friend Rebel, he was saved.
Ando and Hiro come back to the states in hopes to save Matt Parkman, only to find that it is not who they think it is. We all remember Parkman’s wife from season one, that cheating harlot. Well, on the tip sent from Rebel, Ando and Hiro find out that they are supposed to save Matt Parkman’s son, Matt Parkman Jr. I was wondering if they would bring his kid back into the show. However, we were never sure if it was his kid because she was cheating on him. We will just have to see where it goes.
Finally! Sylar confronts his father in this episode. Sylar’s search comes to an end when he arrives at a shanty like house. Inside he knows that it contains his father. Sylar wishes only to find answers about his own life and kill the man who killed his mother. His confrontation is bitter sweet when upon discovery we see that his father is dying of cancer. Sylar and his dad share some words and we see that his father still has some abilities. They are weak in his current state of health, but still present. His father confesses that his hunger for abilities was a waste of his life; only to be consumed by the hunger yet again when he sees that his son can heal. It was awesome to see his dad freak out and try to get Sylar’s healing power. He also showed us some kind of whistling power that makes the victim sleepy or it sedates them. Of course, Sylar is too powerful for that kind of thing, and escapes his father’s clutches. Sylar sees that his father is a husk of a man, and instead of ending his life himself, he decides to let the cancer do the job for him slowly. This was my favorite part of the story. I wanted Sylar to get to his dad so that we could be done with this part, but his dad was awesome. And the casting of John Glover (Lionel Luthor from Smallville) was amazing. This is twice though that Sylar has left people with abilities alive. He didn’t seem to want what they could do even though they had cool powers.
This may have been my favorite episode this volume. Last weeks was good, but this one had a lot more going for it. I am curious to see what they will do with Sylar now. There are hints that Nathan may be Rebel, but that doesn’t make sense to me at this moment.
The show now goes on a two week break, so we will see you when it returns for our next recap.

i wonder if by leaving his father alive, he will somehow find claire (or perhaps another healer) and regain his strength. from the desire he shows to get back to health, i think it’s hard to believe he’ll just sit and die now, knowing he could save himself
