Drew Barrymore May Direct Twilight Sequel, Eclipse?

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Drew Barrymore is rumored to be directing Eclipse, the third film in the popular Twilight series. This would be an interesting move for the film, because with Barrymore directing, there would be a different director for each of the three films. The first film, based on the popular book series by Stephanie Myers, was directed by Catherine Hardwicke. The second film, titled New Moon, is being directed by Chris Weitz, and if this rumor proves to be true, Barrymore could be the third director to take on the job. The release dates for New Moon and Eclipse are very close to one another. New Moon is scheduled to be released on November 20, 2009 and Eclipse will be in theaters June 30, 2010. This would be Barrymore’s second film to direct. She just finished directing a film titled Whip It! I am unsure as to why Barrymore is being considered but her name is being thrown into the hat.
