This does not come as any big surprise. New Line and Platinum Dunes will be moving forward with a sequel to this month’s Friday the 13th. The horror film was a huge hit. It opened with $40 million and has grossed $57 million over the last three weeks. So why not make a sequel? If the formula works, you may as well run it until it loses it appeal. Just look at the Saw movies. We can expect Saw VI this Halloween because those films still make tons of cash in their opening weekend. Not that anyone who watches these films require a plot, but The Hollywood Reporter is noting that this is not necessarily a sequel, but instead, a follow-up to where the last one left off. So I guess that means more stupid teenagers getting high, having sex, and getting killed. Sounds pretty routine to me. Did anyone enjoy this latest installment of the horror franchise?

Julia Robert’s and Clive Owen’s new film Duplicity has debuted a new poster today. It’s not an impressive poster, but Julia Robert’s doesn’t put out that many movies these days, so we will support her when she does. Duplicity is about a pair of corporate spies, who share a steamy past hook up, to pull off the ultimate con job on their respective bosses. The movie looks entertaining with it’s witty dialogue and intriguing plot line. It may be a good spy movie with a romantic comedy vibe. Continue reading to check out this poster for Duplicity.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Drew Barrymore is rumored to be directing Eclipse, the third film in the popular Twilight series. This would be an interesting move for the film, because with Barrymore directing, there would be a different director for each of the three films. The first film, based on the popular book series by Stephanie Myers, was directed by Catherine Hardwicke. The second film, titled New Moon, is being directed by Chris Weitz, and if this rumor proves to be true, Barrymore could be the third director to take on the job. The release dates for New Moon and Eclipse are very close to one another. New Moon is scheduled to be released on November 20, 2009 and Eclipse will be in theaters June 30, 2010. This would be Barrymore’s second film to direct. She just finished directing a film titled Whip It! I am unsure as to why Barrymore is being considered but her name is being thrown into the hat. John Locke has been a polarizing character for many fans of Lost. To some, he is a smart and wise protector of the island. Others see him as a fragile, wannabe tough guy, with daddy issues. Last night’s episode showed us what Locke had been up to before his death; but unfortunately the show moved back to it’s, “answer a few questions but ask many more,” motif. One of the things that got me hooked on Lost was their incredible ability to use “carrots”. The viewer goes into each episode with more questions every week, but they answer enough to keep you from feeling overwhelmed with frustration. Some questions have been bigger than others, but to the shows credit, they really have a great narrative mystery that keeps the show interesting.

The longest running television series in history will continue it’s run for at least another two seasons. America’s favorite animated family began their show in January of 1990 and for the last 19 years have become a staple of American pop culture. With two more seasons in the future, The Simpsons look to hit almost 500 episodes. An astounding feat over a very long course of time that even includes a movie back in 2007. The Simpson’s Movie grossed over $180 million domestically and over $500 million worldwide. Even after all these years, Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie are as bankable as ever. I enjoyed The Simpson’s Movie, as it felt like on long episode of the show. I hope the series continues it’s success and doesn’t lose it’s humor. Are the Simpsons still relevant to American pop culture? Leave your comment on the next page.

Here is a new French poster for the up coming X-Men Origins: Wolverine. A U.S teaser poster debuted a few weeks ago, and now we have an international poster to show you today. The teaser poster was very reminiscent of X-Men 3’s poster. If you have not read our comparison on the X3 poster v. the Wolverine poster, check that out here. As far as this poster goes, I think it’s really lame. Wolverine standing in a field – screaming? To me it looks like he is singing. Check out the poster on the next page and tell us what you think.

Hollywood just wants to remake all the classic films from the 80’s and 90’s don’t they? First The Never Ending Story and now Total Recall? Our next post will be: Hollywood set to remake The Godfather. Just saying that upsets me. Anyways, it appears that Arnold Schwarzenegger’s sci-fi adventure, Total Recall will be seeing a modern remake. Total Recall was released in 1990 and is based on the science fiction short story by Phillip K. Dick. His short story was actually titled, We Can Remember It For You Wholesale. Weird, I know. Total Recall made over $260 million world wide so it will be interesting to see if Hollywood can bank on that success one more time.

How many Never Ending Stories can Hollywood make? Well they apparently have room for at least one more. The original Never Ending Story was released in 1984 and spawned two sequels as well as a television series. This film based on a German children’s book follows a troubled boy who dives into a wondrous fantasy world through the pages of a mysterious book. The original film was directed by Wolfgang Petersen and the new film is going to be produced by the Kennedy/Marshall Company who produced The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

We have two posters to bring you today for the new Pixar animated film Up. These character posters are simple, yet they really put a smile on my face. Pixar has an amazing track record and based upon the trailer and premise for this new film, they may just do it again. The creative minds that make up Pixar are impressive. Last years Wall-E was not only a huge box office success, but it was also one of the best reviewed films of the year. Wall-E was so good that it even earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Let’s hope Pixar can do it again with Up. Continue reading to check out these posters.

The films which Fury will be a part of include: The First Avenger: Captain America, Thor, The Avengers, as well as a S.H.I.E.L.D movie. Warner Brothers is planning ahead for more Harry Potter. The studio announced that the second part to the last film, Deathly Hallows, will be released on July 15, 2011. This will be the end of an era for Harry Potter fans. The first Harry Potter arrived in theaters in November of 2001 and over the last eight years, the franchise has remained as popular, and bankable as when it began. The first part of Deathly Hallows will be in theaters in 2010 with a November 19 release date. Most fans will remember that Harry Potter 6 was scheduled to open this past November (2008), but was pushed back until summer of 2009. Hoping to be one of the big summer blockbusters (which in no doubt will be), Harry Potter 6 is in theater July 17, 2009.

In an ironic twist, the film adaptation of Arrested Development might be finally getting ready for production, ending a long period of film “arrested development”. Unnamed inside sources have contacted E!, stating Michael Cera is now on board with the project. Both Ron Howard and Jeffery Tambor have both spoken up about the movie, saying that things were looking to be moving forward, but any new news or specifics have not seen the light of day.

Broadway is scheduled to open the most expensive production ever next year with Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark. The $40 million dollar stage show will have it’s opening night February 18, 2010. The name “Turn off the Dark” comes from one of the songs in the production which is being directed by Julie Taymor, who previously directed the stage version of The Lion King. What makes this production even more interesting is that Bono and the Edge, from U2 are providing lyrics and music for the show. Wow! This is an amazing collaboration. The show is scheduled to take place at the Hilton Theater because it is the only stage which is big enough to allow Spider-Man to swing from skyscrapers. Sounds like a great show! It looks like The Green Hornet will make it to the big screen after all. After Stephen Chow stepped down from directing due to creative differences, the project was put on hiatus. Now it looks like Michel Gondry may be stepping up to the plate to helm the project. Gondry has previously directed films such as, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and most recently, Be Kind Rewind. His previous work has a weird artsy vibe to it, however this could mean a very unique take on the Green Hornet character. Read the rest of this entry »

This week on Heroes…  Parkman, Mohinder, and Peter have kidnapped H.R.G. They hope to discover the reason for being hunted and the origins of who are involved. This style of episode has become a classic in the Heroes lore. They always have that one show in which they do a flash back to what has transpired a few weeks, or months ago. As much as I think that painting the future has become redundant in the show, I really enjoy the flash back ones. Read the rest of this entry »

This three minute clip from Watchmen is making it’s rounds on the web, so we thought we would share it with you as well. The footage is of the beginning of the film as Rorschach investigates the murder of the Comedian. For those who have read the graphic novel, you will appreciate the very accurate portrayal of the book on screen. This clip is not necessarily a spoiler, however if you are attempting to avoid overexposure to Watchmen, you may want to avoid this footage. If you have read the comic book then this will not be a surprise to you as you already know the scene in question. I am unsure as to why this was even released. There is a brief introduction by director Zach Snyder, but the clip as a whole makes me wonder if it was leaked, or intended for something else other than Internet marketing. Continue reading to check it our for yourself. Read the rest of this entry »

It looks like the Ghostbusters team may be heading back to the big screen. This past weekend Dan Aykroyd was being interviewed by the Boston Globe. When asked about the status of this project Aykroyd replied by saying, “Script is commenced early summer. Hope to be in production by late fall 2009.” So does this mean we could see a third Ghostbusters film for 2010? Will the entire cast return? The first Ghostbusters hit theaters in 1984 and starred Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson. If Aykroyd is indeed correct, and there is a script floating around, then hopefully casting negotiations will begin soon! We will keep you updated when we hear more information on this rumor. So is everyone ready for some more Ghostbusters?
