Numerous sites have been reporting as late as this morning that John Krasinski was about to be cast as Captain America in Marvel’s upcoming First Avenger film. Fans of the hero seemed split on the casting, as many have difficulty seeing him as an action hero after seeing him on The Office and more seriously in Away We Go. Now, according to Mike Fleming, almost all the actors going out for the role have been scrapped and are looking elsewhere. It appears that Marvel and director Joe Johnston have focused on three actors to play Steve Rogers. Who are the finalists? Check out the contenders after the jump.
At the beginning of the month we reported that a script for a Wolverine sequel had been finished and was set to start shooting in 2011. The film is supposed to pull from Chris Claremont’s and Frank Miller’s comic that takes place in Japan and, as I recall, doesn’t have Sabretooth in it. io9 reports that Liev Schreiber had dinner with Hugh Jackman who has read the first draft of the script and seemed ” really excited”. At this point there is no director attached and the cast remains a mystery for the time being. So, will Liev Schreiber be in the sequel?

The first official teaser trailer for Tron Legacy has arrived and it is amazing. This has been an incredible week for trailers with the awesome Iron Man 2 trailer, and now this! Fanboys have eagerly awaited the arrival of this trailer, and I must say, it was definitely worth the wait. For those who may not be old enough to know, Tron Legacy is the sequel to the 1982 sci-fi classic Tron about a hacker who is abducted into a computerized world where he is forced to participate in gladiator style games. The sequel takes place 25 years after the original where Sam Flynn is looking into the disappearance of his father Kevin Flynn. Check out the trailer after the jump!

The Academy Awards, or better known as the Oscars, are one of my favorite events to watch all year long. I love to see all of Hollywood gather to honor their own for a year of outstanding work. While many may feel this night is just an opportunity for the rich and famous to become even more self indulgent, I like to think of it as an honorary night for those who brought the best work to their craft over the last year. With big films like Avatar and Inglourious Basterds competing against smaller independent films like The Hurt Locker and Precious, there is always something for everyone at the Oscars. So what were the best moments of the telecast? How about the worst? We have our picks after the jump!
After the Academy Awards tonight, the second trailer for Iron Man 2 was revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live by guest Robert Downey Jr. The new trailer showcases even more badass action than the first trailer we saw back in December. Director Jon Favreau has another huge blockbuster on his hands as we all eagerly await its arrival on May 7th. The new trailer features even more of what we want to see! More of Tony Stark in the Iron Man suit. A great scene between Mickey Rourke’s Whiplash and Sam Rockwell’s Justin Hammer – and even more! This trailer is freakin’ awesome. Go watch it now!
What a show! Tonight the 82nd Academy Awards took place in Hollywood where the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences honored the very best in film from the last year. Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin did an outstanding job as hosts. The set was beautiful and the stars were all there to celebrate a great year for cinematic achievement. The big winner of the night was The Hurt Locker which took Best Picture as well as Director for Kathryn Bigelow. The first woman to ever win the award for Best Director, Bigelow beat out ex-husband James Cameron to make Oscar history. Avatar may be the highest grossing film of all time, but it didn’t end up with Oscar gold as we all thought it would. For a full list of winners continue reading.

Did anyone else think that the Blade franchise ended a little weak? Me too. Blade was such a great character on screen and to leave on such a low note was a bit sad. There has always been the feeling that a new film should be done and that it could place a better book end on the series. Rumors circulate from time to time on the web about a new project and it seems that Wesley Snipes may have left the franchise wanting. Snipes sat down with MTV and they briefly discussed the possibility of more Blade films.
I am not a fan of either Tim Burton or Johnny Depp, but I went into Alice in Wonderland trying to be as objective as possible. However, reviewing film necessarily eliminates the idea of objectivity, but I will only look at this one specific movie. Alice in Wonderland is a pseudo-sequel to the well known Disney movie. It takes a few cues from the story written by Lewis Carroll but everything in it has Burton’s look and style. Not long into the movie does Alice fall down the proverbial rabbit hole, and the movie starts to get weird.
Yahoo has revealed the final poster for Toy Story 3 which showcases tons of new toys which we will be seeing when the movie arrives this summer. This is one of my most anticipated films of the summer, and this poster just makes me even more anxious to see this movie. Toy Story 3 hits theaters on June 18th – and of course will be in 3D! Check out the full poster after the jump.
Some X-Men fans can rejoice in the knowledge that a new ‘Wolverine’ movie is in the works. Others may want to sit down for this news. Christopher McQuarrie (X-Men and Valkyrie) has finished the script for Marvel’s most recognized mutant and is scheduled to start filming in 2011 according to The Hollywood Reporter and MTV. I am more that happy to see more X-Men related material getting prepared to shoot, but this seems a little fast. It hasn’t even been a years since the first film came out and X-Men Origins: Wolverine was not well received by the masses. I am not sure that fans are ready for a sequel to a rushed, bad visual effects ridden, poorly made film.
